Week 8: Nanotech and Art
Week 8: Nanotech and art
Nanotech is what makes up a large part of modern times day to day life, from cell phones and underwear wicking to adhesives and home appliances . This may seem incorrect initially but as one further inquires there is a large amount of tiny technology all around us. From an artistic standpoint, there is also an increasing amount of miniature works that are very similar or related to Nanotechnology.
My initial thought was to 3d printing and the ability to make anything as big or as small as possible. And with obvious sizing issues to make a statement miniature is much more feasible then massive. So in turn a large amount of sculptures and art works are coming out tiny. Another connection was to pencil-led carving. It had always amazed me the control and patience aswell as the finesse these works of art required. However it is a fascinating concept and medium that is very hard to imitate. Small works like these are just the beginning as nanotech and art merge further. In the future there may be beautiful works stored in frames as small as a pixel. There efficiency continues to improve with technology around it and so does the style of hiding the technology. With the style of modern vintage and or sleek equivalents,
the prevalence of nanotechnology will surely rise. In turn, nano art and artistic equivalents with nanotechnology will as well.
